A few years back, I moved with my son to a tiny little town on the Taranaki coast. Before we moved here I was gigging regularly in a duo with my partner, but we broke up and I was left hours away from the nearest city, and financially it doesn't make sense to travel so far for gigging. I had decided anyway that the music lifestyle wasn't compatable with the lifestyle I wanted for my son so have made a commitment to make the most of living here until he's old enough to stand on his own feet...then mum's leaving home lol!
Being here enable me to live out another dream, which is to have a huge fruit and vege garden and lots of animals. We definitely have the animals - 1 dog, 2 goats, 5 cats, 7 chooks, and 10 guinea pigs! and the garden is just being etablished now. I had a large vege garden before, but put the goats in the back, and am moving the garden to the front section, so it's just started happening again now as we prepare for spring. I was getting all our veges from the garden before , and in a few months, should be at least getting all our greens from the garden again.
Living in such an isolated location has it's challenges. Mostly how to make money. If I was I the city I'd be gigging, but I'm really glad to have this time with my son, and to give up the gigging for a while, he's been really blossoming since we settled here. Music involves lots of travelling and it's hard to find the balance sometimes.
So I've turned to the internet to connect me to the world, with my music and art, and find inspiration from other creative people - something my home town wasn't offering a lot of lol
Not only that, it's given me opportunities to make money that fit the lifestyle we're living now.
For a while I worked for a large company that processes milk not far from where I live. The main decently paid employment around here. It was only seasonal, very long hours, but very well paid. However I felt my dreams were put on hold while I was there, and thankfully they have set me free this season, as it was never a great match for an artistic person like myself.
It's so exciting to think that I really can have my dream lifestyle, without leaving home. I feel the internet is giving me that possibility.
What I want to do is share that possibility with others through my blogs.
